What Are My Options For Resurfacing My Swimming Pool?

By: DC Plaster

Like most things in life, swimming pool interiors unfortunately wear out over the years. There is some good news, there are far more options for resurfacing now compared to when your swimming pool was first built. With a new finish, you can alter your pool's appearance for the better.

On the other hand, the sheer volume of different options can make it difficult to decide which direction to go. Not to mention the fact that it is not easy to get a ballpark figure on pricing.

The specific cost to resurface your swimming pool is contingent on a few different variables, including things like the current condition of your pool and geography. The biggest factor, the one you have the most control over, is what type of material you decide to use. Plaster is still one of the most common finishes for residential gunite pools; however, other options are becoming popular.

Here is a quick rundown of the best resurfacing options.

Paint

Certainly, this is not a long-term solution to your problem; however, painting your pool with high-quality epoxy paint is easily the most affordable choice. Painting a rundown pool surface can buy you time while you save up for a more expensive renovation project down the road.

Tiles

If your ct swimming pool is supposed to be the pinnacle of luxury, you may want to consider covering the interior with tiling. As you might expect, this is the most expensive option due to the materials and labor involved.

Plaster

Plaster is often used for backyard swimming pools, mostly because it is inexpensive and relatively durable. Admittedly, the material is not known for stunning good looks, but white plaster can make an attractive backdrop for pool water, helping to illustrate the classic "clean" appearance. Note: Plaster also comes in a variety of different colors so you should be cautious about picking a strange color unless you know how it will interact with the water.

Other Factors

Unfortunately, even after you decide which material to surface your pool with, it is still a frustrating experience, trying to figure out an approximate price. Anyone who tries to give you a one-size-fits-all answer is likely ignoring some key factors that determine swimming pool resurfacing cost. These include:

Location

In any given area of Connecticut, there are only a limited number of companies offering pool resurfacing. This limits your options, as well as how competitive they have to be when they are making bids. Consider how far materials have to be shipped, as this will likely make a big difference.

Prep Work

Prep work is often the defining difference between different pool contractors and their prices. Obviously, the current condition of your pool also dictates what needs to be done to get it ready for resurfacing. Inadequate prep work can lead to problems later on, which can easily wipe out any savings you get by cutting corners.
